Tragedy kept hitting our kennel/home beginning October, 2008
The wait for Tila to give birth to our puppies was finally over! On october 6th, 2008 Tila gave birth to 10 puppies. 6 males and 4 females. Unfortunatley we lost 2 females at birth leaving us with 8 healthy puppies.
On October 14th, My husband and I had to leave on a family emergency and asked a friend to watch our dogs and to let Damion in at night, but out during the day because he was a chewer and got into everything, and to keep Tila with her puppies, but to let her out for potty breaks and to run around outside for a while. And to keep damion out of my room where the puppies were. Basically to keep our dogs fed, watered and cleaned up any potty messes.
On October 20th, 2008 (approx) My husband returned home and I stayed to await the arrival of my nephew. I got a phone call when my husband arrived home when he discovered our home was a complete disaster! The back sliding door had been open letting the dogs run in and out as they pleased, no water and food. Our clothes, shoes etc. was torn up in the back yard, the toilets were completely empty from any water at all, my bathroom ( where the pups and tila were to be) was torn up and there was an empty chewed up bottle of mixed alcohol and bleach that I used for cleaning grout for my tile counter tops. Puppies were growing excellent, fat and trying to walk. There eyes had finally opened. My husband dicovered that Tila had a case of really bad diahreah and wanted nothign to do with the puppies for some apparent reason.
Well when he found the chewed up stuff in the yard and in the bathroom we knew right away Damion was the guilty one in this chaotic act. Damion had chewed the bottle and left the remains for Tila to get into...... There was now ater anywhere so we guess Tila had licked up the remains of the bottle because she was thirsty (which was later confirmed by a vet)
On October 28th, 2008 My nephew was born. And I was happy. I was going home the next day to return home to my family and take care of my dogs.
On October 29th, 2008 everything changed and prolonged my stay. My aunt was diagnosed with luekemia a week before, after her 2 yr long battle with breast cancer. She died on October 29th, 2008. So I stayed a little bit longer.
I returned home on November 1st , 2008 and I finally got to see my babies! The puppies were runing around eyes opened, and just tons of fun. But I noticed Tila didnt seem well. She was eating and drinking fine, but just seemed a little under the weather. A week passed by and she seemed to be doing okay, nothing out of the ordianry, diahreah was common for nursing bitches and the vet said she seems to be okay but to keep an eye on her in case something out of the ordinary happens. Well, my worst fear came true, hit out of nowhere!
On Novemeber 18th, 2008 Tila took a turn for the worst and so were her puppies. I could not figure out what the hell was going on. We got them parvo checked- negative.
We contacted many many vets and came up with the solution of a "Parvo" tea recipe that we could use to clean out and kill whatever was doing this to them. We gave this tea recipe to the puppies and it didnt seem to be working at first.........the puppies were restless, looked as if they were on there death bed, and small strains of blood in there stool, and vomiting like crazy!
I asked the vet again, what is wrong with these guys?? I could no longer afford a vet visit so we were refurred to the Humane society where they would test the puppies and Tila for free. Thank god!!!
Well As the days passed by till Novemebr 20th, we could no longer stand seeing our poor Tila in the condition she was in. She lost all her weight ina matter of 2 days! On November 20th, which once was our 60 lb. Healthy momma, weighed a gasping 40 lbs, and was dropping it in front of our eyes! She vomited, could no longer eat, drink, and nothing but blood was coming out of her. So we took her in.
The humane society tested Tila for parvo, came out negative. WTF could it be?
Then the vet had told us that it had to be the alcohol and bleach mix that was eating her insides away and it became infected which was making the puppies sick. The vet diagnosed her with "GASTRITIS" Which was killing her and there was nothing we could do for her. So we made the desison to put her down with the re assurance that she wouldnt make it no matter what we did.
Gastritis is a general term used to describe inflammation of the lining of the stomach. The most common sign associated with gastritis is vomiting. Although signs may be mild and self-limiting in some cases, they can be debilitating and even life threatening in others, necessitating hospitalization and intensive supportive care. Acute gastritis is characterized by vomiting of less than 7 days duration. Chronic gastritis is characterized by intermittent vomiting of greater than 1-2 weeks duration. There are a variety of causes of gastritis, some associated with acute vomiting and some associated with chronic vomiting.
Causes of Acute Gastritis
When we returned home after having to give up Tila, We had to hand feed the puppies and we continued to give them the tea recipe till they got better- 2 weeks passed by and they were live and well, no more blood, vomit, or anything- they were running around playing like theyhad never played before! Ice was the one I was most worried about, he looked dead all the time but was still breathing, we kept him away from all the others. He too became healthy again. And is still here today, as well as all the puppies!
In december I got an email from a man who bought one of our puppies. He was sorry to tell me that Nova had jumped out of the back of his truck and broke his neck while out on a day of shooting. Broke my heart and I felt for him, accidents can happen out of the ordinary! I know first hand!
Also In December as an X-Mas present, I found a puppy for my husband. A UKC GOTTI/RAZORS EDGE puppy!
She was so darn cute and for the price I couldnt resist.
Owner said she was healthy as well as the other litter mates.
We got her home and she began recieving her shots. Being your average terror and playful puppy! We grew attatched rather quickly.......
Well on December 17th, 2008 Elektra became very sick, vomiting for a few days, which then turned into bloody stool, then worked its way up to nothing but blood out both ends. I knew right away she was dieng of parvo, we tried the tea recipe on her, didnt work at all. And she past away in her sleep on December 20th, 2008 .
We tried calling everyone possible to help but NO HOSPITAL OR VET WOULD SEE HER!!!! They told me, seriousley, was to either put her down ourselves or she would die on her own! Are you kidding me! A vet recommends killing your animal? I was fumed!! The only ones who would see her was of course, the humane society, so I made an appt to bring her in on the day she died, so she never made it...............
So we lost 2 of our dogs.
In january we were losing our home, lost our jobs, and couldnt make ends meet at all. There was no jobs or anything in Fernley. So we decided to relocate to Colorado where there were jobs. We Sold our last puppy, D'Lilah the day after we Sold Damion. We had nothing left, no home, no furniture (sold everything), no dogs. And we were going to start over......
So if things couldnt get any worse for us, I was on my computer browsing around the pet ads on Craigslist, which I always did. And I came across an ad that titled "Blue brindle male pitbull"
Well I of course opened the ad and as I read through it I realized it was Damion. It was from the lady we got Damion from when he was a puppy, saying she was in Alaska and she got a call that the pitbull with her info on the chip, was in the pound in Reno, NV and she was asking for help and asked if someone knew what happened or knew where we were......... Well I responded ASAP and she was so happy to hear that I was Damions owner and explained to her what was going on. That I had to sell him because we were moving and we lost everything. But I assured her I would go get him and I would indeed keep him. I couldnt bear it if he wound up in a home that didnt care for him and left for dead or vivited the pound again. She proceeded to tell me that he had been in there for 9 days and after 7 they were supposed to uthenize him, but they didnt because he wasnt aggressive at all and he was microchipped and got a hold of the person on it.
So the next day we went and got him, brought proof that he was ours and brought him home. But one thing was standing in our way, we were leaving to Texas to save money to go to Colorado to get a home that would allow a pitbull. But my father wouldnt allow us to bring him so we got a hold of Brandons friend who offered to take him and hold onto him while we got our home in colorado. We left 1st week of february, and had damion go to Brandons friend earlier to see how he would adjust. So we checked up on him a few times and he assured us he was doing great. We were relieved! And everythign was going as planned.
My husband left for colorado after arriving in Texas, end of March, 2009
I stayed behind in Texas to collect more money because I knew when I got to colorado I wouldnt have a job right away so this would help. Brandon found us a home, and I planned to join him April 9th, 2009.
On April 3rd my husband called me and said that his friend gave him bad news about damion and could no longer keep him. He said that Damion had bit someone and they were putting him down. I of course balled my eyes out and didnt understand because Damion wasnt aggressive at all! He always had children all over him, met new people all the time and never once ever offered to hurt anybody. So I knew somethign wasnt right. I found out the truth and started placing ads for someone to foster him till I could get him. Well on November 4th I got a phone call saying that Brandons FRIEND HAD DUMPED HIM OFF in wadsworth and thought he would be a res. dog. WTF? I guess these kind of dogs are strays that live on the Indian Resevoir and peole feed and water them. Well I of course got very upset, because although yes, peole do care for these dogs, but did it ever occur to him that he was a PITBULL!!!!!!!!! And all it took was for some pitbull hater to see him and he would be a goner!!! Well thats what exactly happened after the numerous phone calls, emails I made to have him found and looked for. I got a phone call from a lady in Wadsworth staing that she had found my dog, but she had bad news. He was found dead (shot) and that she was deeply sorry. She said she would bury him in her backyard so that he wasnt food for a coyote. So my search for him was over, but ended tragically.
This is why I VOW to NEVER EVER EVER BREED ANOTHER PITBULL AS LONG AS LIVE!
They get treated like shit, and what good pitbulls we do have, still get singled out and end up like my Damie Boy. So I stopped adding to the killing, I stopped adding to the torture of these dogs. Although he was safe with me, I , the one person he was safe with, couldnt keep him because of the damn economy, and losing everything we had. Can you imagine how many other pitbulls (or dogs alone) were given up for this very reason, if it werent a pitbull, it would find a home and if it did enter a pound, it would come out allive because it isnt a "DANGER breed" Are you kidding me? If you ask me chihuahuas are more damn dangerous and bite a hell of alot more often than a pitbull breed. And those little ankle biters almost always find a home! Pitbulls...... I wish I could say the same....but in reality, our world is just crashing down on this breed because of people single the whole breed because of one pitbulls mistake, one owners mistake........ which is causing this beautiful breed to be killed. In front of our eyes this world is making it so that this breed will soon become instinct as they are killed off . But in a way Breeders would keep this breed going, but not realizing that the good there doing is resulting in "DEATH ROW" for this breed. good? or bad? I dont know- I just know that I am one less person that will participate in reproducing a breed that is just bound for death. No matter which way you see it, Stray, pound, Fighting, abandoned..........it all leads up to the same thing. But adding to it, is just adding to the numerous pitbulls that visit the shot gun, or teeth of another dog, or the uethenasia at a pound.......... just cruel........
